Kateryna Halushka, working under the name Katerilian, is a Ukrainian fantasy artist based in Valencia, Spain.

Born in Odesa in 1997, she began her professional path as a children's book illustrator, developing a strong interest in visual storytelling and creating imaginary worlds. Over the years, her practice expanded beyond illustration into painting, drawing, animation and sculpture.

In 2021, she began developing her own long-term artistic project, which became the foundation of her current practice and continues to evolve through different mediums and forms.

Kateryna is interested in the relationship between imagination and reality, and in the ways personal experience, perception and emotions influence how we see the world. Her work often touches on themes of self-knowledge, anxiety, human psychology, nature and the parts of everyday life that are easy to overlook.

She values curiosity, freedom of imagination and the possibility of looking at familiar things from an unfamiliar perspective.

Artist statement

In my artistic practice, I combine fragments of various worlds - taken from music, literature, cinema, personal experience, nature, and interactions with others. I explore psychology and how human biases shape events in life, and the opposite: how traumas affect perception. For example, how past events can create anxiety that motivates and urges one to plan possible scenarios to feel prepared, yet at the same time drains energy or pushes one to hide in creativity.

Through this process, new characters appear, giving life to the complex universe of the Morulins.

Morulins are beings that, by being in situations, reveal their absurdity or hidden side we often overlook. They feel confined within human prejudice because their actions are guided not only by logic but also by feelings, intuition, and a connection with the universe. They invite viewers to reflect on awareness and meaning. At first glance, their anxious and at times eerie look may mislead, but they are guides carrying deep messages.

With every brushstroke or liner mark, I explore the depths of the human mind. They come from the subconscious onto paper or canvas, uncovering new layers of meaning and understanding. This artistic journey feels like standing on the edge of an adventure where new characters and insights appear.
